Provides a means for referencing data and resources accessible via the
Java TV APIs. The <tt>Locator</tt> interface serves as an opaque
reference to the location information of entities which are
addressable within a television receiver. For example, locators
can reference broadcast filesystems, portions of service information,
sources of audio/video content, and interactive applications.
<p>
A given locator may
represent transport-independent data and have multiple mappings to
transport-dependent locators. Methods are provided for discovery of
such circumstances and for transformation to transport-dependent
locators.
<p>
An instance of <tt>Locator</tt> that references a <code>Service</code>
or <code>ServiceComponent</code> can be converted to a
<tt>javax.media.MediaLocator</tt> instance through use of the method
<tt>Locator.toExternalForm()</tt>.

Provides controls and events for the management of real-time media
in a television environment.
<br>The Java TV API uses the Java Media Framework (JMF) APIs for managing
the broadcast media pipeline.
<p>JMF defines javax.media.Player, which extends MediaHandler, for time-based
media data. A Player object encapsulates the state machine required to
acquire resources and manage the rendering of time-based media streams.
A Player object also provides various controls for the rendering facilities
(e.g., volume and video picture controls). Finally, in the case of a Player
for an audio/video stream, a GUI component object that contains the video
portion of the stream can be obtained from the Player. This allows integration
and placement of video with the rest of the presentation.
<p>This package defines extensions to JMF for use a television environment.
The DAVIC media package defines additional JMF extensions. For a detailed
description of JMF, see the JMF 1.0 specification.

Provides access to IP datagrams transmitted in the broadcast stream.
Applications implemented using the Java TV API can access IP datagrams
transmitted in the broadcast stream through use of the normal datagram
reception mechanisms of the <tt>java.net</tt> package. Unicast IP datagrams
are received via the <tt>java.net.DatagramSocket</tt> class; multicast
IP datagrams are received via the <tt>java.net.MulticastSocket</tt> class.
<p>To enable reception of multicast IP datagrams, the Java TV API assigns
a locally-unique IP address to service components carrying encapsulated
IP datagrams. These addresses are generated dynamically from the set of
IP addresses reserved for use in private networks (see RFC 1918 for more
information). Television applications determine the local IP address assigned
to a given service component using the class <tt>javax.net.InterfaceMap</tt>.
Applications then use this IP address to indicate the network interface
from which instances of <tt>java.net.MulticastSocket</tt> or <tt>java.net.DatagramSocket</tt>
receive multicast datagrams.
